Requests for funding must focus on at least one of the areas Great Lakes
supports and must have an impact in at least one of the communities where
our facilities are located. Proposals must be submitted in writing and
should include:
1. Your organization's name, contact person, title, address, and telephone number.
2. Your organization's background and purpose, including the services it provides
and the people and geographic area(s) it serves.
3. The reasons you are requesting funds, including:
The issue, problem, or need your organization is addressing
How your proposal relates to Great Lakes' philanthropic priorities
4. If your organization is based in the United States, your request should also include a notation as to:
Whether or not your organization receives funds from the United Way
A copy of your organization's letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) indicating its charitable, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
Generally, Great Lakes does not financially support:
Causes and organizations outside the communities in which we operate
General overhead for United Way-affiliated agencies. (We are direct supporters of the United Way in our communities.)
Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, or national origin
Organizations without IRS code 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status (applies if organization operates in the United States)
Individuals
Political organizations or campaigns
Endowment funds
Programs limited to members of one religious group
Student trips or exchange programs
Athletic sponsorships
Telephone solicitations
