With the phase-out of many long-chain perfluorinated chemicals
due to environmental and safety concerns over the formation of perfluorooctanyl
sulfonate (PFOS) and the more recent concerns over formation of
perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), we have been actively working on
greener Surface Energy Technology (SET) molecules. Our new SET compounds
were created to provide the optimum balance between fluorine performance
and environmental profile.
Our SET fluorosurfactants replace longer
chain perfluorinated chemicals in many applications requiring a
rapid decrease in surface tension at low concentration levels. Our
SET fluorosurfactants are small molecular weight branched CF3
compounds specifically designed to concentrate the fluorine content
on the surface of the molecule.
These new compounds reduce
the environmental risk associated with PFOA- related chemicals without
limiting the performance benefits derived from fluorine. By using
our patented short carbon chain structure, our SET fluorosurfactants
are not related to telomer processes or PFOA by-products.
Effective at a very low concentration, SET
fluorosurfactants provide outstanding surface reduction capabilities
to enable improved wetting, leveling, and flow for a wide range
of applications in both liquids and on solid surfaces. Offering
maximum functionality, SET fluorochemicals can be bound to a variety
of materials including olefin, acrylate, urethane, and hydrophilic
end groups.
More cost-effective than either hydrocarbon
or silicone surfactants, SET fluorosurfactants have the ability
to emulsify and disperse in a host of substances. For paint and
