A broad class
of thermoplastics noted for their ease of processing and good balance
of physical properties, Styrenics are used in a multitude of processes
including compounding, extrusion and injection molding.
Improving
flame retardancy is achievable primarily through incorporation of
halogenated flame retardants and synergists for applications where
UL 94 V-0 is required. Phosphorous based flame retardant systems
are available for certain less rigorous flammability requirements.
The styrenics can be alloyed with other polymers such as PPO and
PC. These alloys broaden the range of flammability requirements
achievable with phosphorous-based flame retardants.
